Fundamental Societal Problem

I believe one of the fundamental problems in our society is that we rarely have an honest conversations with each other about how we know something is true—a question an entire (but largely forgotten) branch of philosophy, epistemology, exists to address. Since the truth is often murky and hard to uncover, tools like critical thinking and epistemology are needed, but more and more, instead of developing those tools, we are taught to settle those questions by simply trusting the most trustable expert.
