The Best of The Asylum’s Memes: Jan 2022 – Mar 2024

I’ve used two criteria for these: my favorites and those that got some traction on social media: Patriots.win and Substack. Traction is a relative term in my world since I do not have a lot of subscribers, nonetheless here they are, some with comments (below the image), some without. Obviously, feel free to share…that’s what memes are for.

I’ve stopped in March 2024, because in April I started using an AI image generator to create many of my memes. When I started doing that there was a definite shift in the kinds of things I could do.

What resonates is very hard to predict. I’ve found this to be true with most all the things that I post. Something I like a lot, very often gets very little traction, and something else I just throw together on the spur of moment gets more. I have learned that even if I’m not totally sold on what I’ve created be it an essay, a meme, a poem or short story….sometimes those resonate with others in ways I could have not anticipated.

I’m sure there’s some lesson there…but I’m too tired at the moment to spend any more time thinking about it.

There are 19 memes here. The best way to look at all of the memes I’ve created (over 250), for those of you interested, is on my website’s ALL MEMEs page.

This current post is also for many of you who have only recently subscribed on Substack or found my website. It has grown into much more than I anticipated…which seems to be the way life goes. Enjoy. If there are comments they come after the meme.

Two young angels talking about Critical Race Theory

This was my first meme. It came out on January 1, 2022.

Illustrated woman with thumbs up: Thank you for not wearing a mask.

This was my first one that got some traction. I didn’t start my Substack until June of 2022. This came out in January of 2022. I posted it on Patriots.win where it went viral. I have since seen it on Gab and a couple of other places I can’t remember.

Photo of many doctors: Pandemic Doctors, because we all need another profession we can't trust. Students along a wall with phones: This Mass Formation Psychosis is such bullshit...they're all saying that. Scene from the Princess Bride: Let's Go Brandon. Stop Saying That! Jesus and God sitting on their thrones: Jesus: Now? God: Not yet, watch what I do with these truckers. (color)

I followed the Canadian Truckers closely and was horrified to see how they were denigrated, lied about and treated by the Canadian government. This meme got more traction than I was expecting.

Tony Fauci holding up a card that says: The science is whatever I need it to be. Princess Bride Scene. Safe and Effective! You keep using that phrase I do not think it means what you think it means (color version) Doctor holding a COVID-19 bottle filling a syringe. Crimes against Humanity: Et Tu, Doctor? (Color) Get Smart. Chief: You realize, you will be labelled “ULTRA MAGA” from now until the mid-terms? Maxwell Smart: And.....Loving it!

Depending on your age…this may not make any sense. This is from the old Get Smart series….”And loving it” was a phrase Max used all the time.

Picture of Syringe: This is not a vaccine. Man on his deathbed surrounded by friends and clergy:At least he was vaccinated! It could have been so much worse. Father, please forgive these idiots. Man yelling: It's Not the Vaccines. Paper headlines: Six Canadian Doctors Die. Excess Deaths increase Worldwide. Chart with ascending lines. A Donkey and Elephant looking at a woman. Who do you like the best, the elephant asks. I hate both of you equally, the woman responds.

This is a repurposed vintage cartoon.

Time Parody Cover: Grifter of the Year. Volodymyr Zelensky & the Spirit of Graft

This is the one that gave me my first wave of Substack subscribers. It came out December 7, 2022. This was because of Larry Johnson and his site, “Son of the New American Revolution.” He wrote this about the meme:

A tip of the hat to The Asylum for nailing the meme. I had to check the calendar to make sure it was not April 1st when I heard the news that Time magazine named Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky Man of the Year. It also crossed my mind that the Babylon Bee was doing a follow up on its satirical cover featuring “Rachel” Levine as Man of the Year.

The Babylon Bee was joking (I thought it hilarious). Time magazine may be a joke, but is dead serious in naming Zelensky its Man of the Year. The Asylum, to its credit, beat Babylon Bee to the punch in correctly ridiculing this decision.1

Parody of a Glamour Magazine Cover: Clamour. Logan confirms women can still get pregnant. Logan Brown.

Like the Time cover parody, this is from an actual cover of Glamour that I altered to reflect reality, not their fantasy about men getting pregnant.

The traditional Uncle Sam poster with this text: I Want YOU Not To Comply. No Masks. No Mandates. No Bullshit.

I saw this one out in the wild, but they had blocked out “No Bullshit” and replaced it with, I think, “No Cow Patties.”

Boss talking to employees. To keep your jobs you'll need to play Russian Roulette every six months. Who's in?

I like that the two business guys, with hands raised, have big smiles on their faces.

Scenes from Breaking Bad: You can treat COVID? Who are you? / You know who I am. Say my name. / I don't know who you are. / Yes you do. Say...my...name. / ...you're Ivermectin? You're damn right.

I’ll stop here. This last one came out on March 30th, 2024. The more recent ones have evolved since I started using A.I. to generate images.

I’ll do something like this again at the end of next year.

Hope you enjoyed.
