A Civilizational Reckoning: Understanding the Threat, Reclaiming the Future by Elaine Ellinger

The goal of the “Islamophobia” campaign is [to] disarm the West in the face of the Islamic threat, and beyond that to establish in free societies the blasphemy provisions of Islamic law forbidding criticism of Islam.1

— Robert Spencer

LOTR parody. The age of the kafir is over. The time of the Muslim has come. Can't wait to get my sex slaves.

A Civilizational Reckoning: Understanding the Threat, Reclaiming the Future is a comprehensive book on the menace Islam poses to Western Civilization. Elaine Ellinger, the author, states the purpose of the book in the preface:

Its purpose is to support critical engagement and informed, principled response.

Understanding what is at stake begins with understanding the doctrine – without this clarity, there can be no meaningful defence of Western freedoms and fundamental human rights.2

A Civilizational Reckoning: Understanding the Threat, Reclaiming the Future by Elaine Ellinger (cover)Like many of the authors I have been reading Ellinger is careful to substantiate her claims about Islam’s incompatibility with the ideals of Western Civilization and freedom-loving people by quoting from Islam’s foundational texts: the Koran, Hadith and Muhammad’s biography written by Ibn Ishaq. From the “Glossary of Common Arabic and Doctrinal Terms,” Ellinger writes this about the Hadith:

Recorded sayings, actions, and approvals of Mohammed. Foundational to Islamic law alongside the Koran. Six collections are considered ‘authentic’ in Sunni Islam, four in Shia Islam.3

She also often quotes from Reliance of the Traveler(ROT) which she says is

a Sharia manual compiled in the 14th century and translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller in 1996, certified by Al-Azhar University as a valid reference for Islamic law today…4

Because Ellinger considers it important for non-Muslims (kafir) to understand the view that Islam has of them that’s where her book begins. Throughout the Koran, she writes, “it is remarkable how thoroughly deep hostility towards the kafir (infidels) is embedded in Islamic doctrine.”5 Muslims are told not to take Jews or Christians as friends, nor any unbelievers unless it is necessary to further Islam.

For Muslims the world is divided in two: believers (Muslims) and unbelievers (Kafir).

Ellinger writes that the Arabic root of Kafir appears over 500 times in the Koran, that is, more than half the Koran is about non-Muslims. Kafir are referred to as “cattle”(Koran 7:179) and the “worst of creatures”(Koran 8:55). Ellinger provides a longer list of Kafir insults found in the Koran. A few more:

  • Unreachable by truth
  • They wish you[Muslims] harm
  • Traitors
  • Cursed
  • Hated by Allah
  • Enemies of Allah6

If it’s not clear yet, kafir is not a term of endearment. But it’s not just the Koran. The Hadith and ROT also attack unbelievers. In Hadith Bukhari 6924 it says:

“I have been commanded to fight the people until they say ‘There is no god but Allah’…”7

In ROT o9.8 it says:

Jihad is a communal obligation. To fight the Kafirs until they become Muslim pay the jizya, or are killed.8

Wait? What? I keep hearing from Islamic trolls that “There is no compulsion in religion,” that all this violence by Muslims is just a huge misunderstanding, that Islam is the most peaceful of religions. What the hell am I missing?

Contempt for kafir allows Muslims to lie to them or be selective in what they reveal about Islam, things that might alarm a non-Muslim. You see this currently in the U.S. from Muslim leadership and unsuspecting, ignorant politicians terrified of being called “racist” (Islam is not a race) or, God forbid, “Islamophobic.” This fear by Western leadership ignores Islamic doctrine and allows an ideology opposed to Western ideals to become stronger and stronger within countries like Great Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Canada and America.

A recent Muslim troll on my Substack had this to say in another thread I looked at:

The bottom line is that the more Muslims integrate with this system [Western Civilization], the more the System can punish the Muslims, and the harder it is for doers to free themselves from it. And the more Muslims de-integrate from it, the weaker it gets, and the easier it is for doers to carve out real Muslim sovereignty and ascend to domination.9[emphasis mine]

Not harmony. Not peaceful coexistence. Domination.

The only other chapter I’ll get into briefly is the last chapter: “Resisting and Reversing Islamization.” Her solution is not one I’ve read before. Essentially she says we need a better working definition of what qualifies as a religion. The problem high trust societies are having is that under the guise of religion Islam is being allowed to implement Sharia, which is an all encompassing legal structure for Muslims that has precedence over any and all laws in Western countries. Islam is not a religion in the strictest sense and Sharia is a two-tiered legal framework: one for Muslims and one for non-Muslims.

The very freedoms that our ignorant, complicit leaders say they’re trying to protect by allowing “diversity” and “inclusion” are being undermined daily. Sharia is progressing in education, in churches and in government, often funded by the Gulf States, Gulf States like Saudi Arabia where a freeway sign into Mecca directs non-Muslims to a different off-ramp. Can’t have a kafir in Mecca!

Coppertone parody add. Sharia gives you a better covering. Says Western Woman afraid of being called Islamophobic and getting gang-raped.

Imagine if here in the U.S. a freeway heading into Washington D.C. had a sign directing Muslims to an off-ramp to restrict their entrance into the capitol? The outrage from Islamists, Democrats and RINOs would make suicide bombers appear passé.

Here’s a definition for Religion that Ellinger proposes. She thinks it’s not important to name any religions, just define what qualifies as a religion. I like the simplicity of it:

A belief system that receives public funds, legal exemptions, or institutional recognition must meet minimum standards:

  • Equality before the law
  • Prohibition of harm
  • Freedom of conscience
  • Respect for the rights of others10

Under this definition, Islam would not qualify.

Is there the political will to enact such a law? And then enforce it? Europe will most likely fail that test, they can’t even figure out climate change is a hoax. The U.S.? I hope so. J.D. Vance when speaking to the Munich Security Conference in 2025 said Europe’s problem was Europe by allowing the mass migration of individuals who came only to exploit and take advantage of native Europeans. Hopefully, that means this administration is thinking about it.

It’s a terrible story, but it’s one we’ve heard way too many times in Europe and, unfortunately, too many times in the United States as well: an asylum seeker, often a young man in his mid-20s, already known to police, rams a car into a crowd and shatters a community.

How many times must we suffer these appalling setbacks before we change course and take our shared civilization in a new direction?11

He never mentions Islam or Muslims, but everyone knows who he’s talking about even if they’re afraid to admit it. In the recent United States Counterterrorism Strategy report put out in May of 2026 the words Jihad, Jihadi, Jihadists are mentioned 16 times in the 16 page PDF document. Word forms of Islam, 9 times. Muslim Brotherhood is mentioned 5 times not including the abbreviation MB. There’s no mention, thankfully, of the necessity of fighting “Islamophobia.” Previous administrations would have made that a top priority.

In his foreword President Trump wrote:

We designated key chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as the terrorist groups they have always been. We mobilized the Department of Homeland Security to remove illegal alien criminals and Jihadist sympathizers from our country.12

Here are a couple of other quotes from the document:

With the FTO-designation of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), we will continue maintaining pressure on the global Jihadi movement until global MB enterprises can no longer recruit and fund terror against the United States.13

President Trump knows that all modern Jihadi groups, from al Qaeda to ISIS to Hamas, can trace their roots back to one organization: the Muslim Brotherhood. The MB is the root of all modern Islamist terrorism predicated on recreating the Muslim Caliphate and killing or enslaving non-Muslims.14[emphasis mine]

It looks like the Trump administration understands the threat of Islam and the involvement of the Muslim Brotherhood. This is encouraging. The report also mentions the slaughter of Christians in Africa, the cartel threat south of our border, and “Violent Left-Wing Extremist, including Anarchists and Anti-Fascists.”15

I know there is a lot of controversy on the Right with the war in Iran, but there’s a lot more going on than people realize. For a very different perspective see Promethean Action’s website and watch their videos. In short, Trump is attempting to end the threat of Globalism, a threat we’ve been dealing with for over a 100 years—maybe longer. It’s no easy task. I can’t remember where I read this, but the author wrote something like: “Trump is not playing 5D chess—but he is playing chess.” I like that.

Other chapters in Ellinger’s book explore Sharia, Western concession, women and children, Islam vs. the West, Jihad, historical roots, betrayal by Western leadership and more.

The main part of the book is over 400 pages long, but it’s well worth your time. The appendices include sample draft legislation for defining religion for England, the United States, Canada and France.

Here are some more quotes from the book:

Sharia advances by exploiting widespread ignorance, misplaced optimism, and strategic messaging, while its beneficiaries actively suppress scrutiny.16

It [Islam] is a civilizational model: legal, political, economic, and military, that uses the language of religion to claim protections it does not itself permit.17

This selective outrage reflects a broader pattern: Islamic organizations readily protest Western failures to accommodate Islam but remain silent when Islam fails its own.18

For ‘believing’ women, Paradise remains undefined – unexplained, and almost certainly unequal. As in life under Islam, their afterlife is dictated not by hope or reward, but by religious doctrine. And that religion, once again, favours men.19

In modern discourse, jihad is often described as personal struggle. But doctrinally, jihad means warfare in the cause of Allah – and it appears extensively in all major Islamic sources. Ninety-eight percent of jihad-related hadith in Bukhari are violent, and the Sira of Mohammed is replete with accounts of violent jihad.20

In 2024, over half of those Called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn bore names of Islamic origin, while only a tenth appeared to be from England’s historic population.21

Man standing on pile of skulls with newspaper that says: Progressivism + Islamism. He says, What did you expect?
