Never Forget — Follow the Arrows

Accident on Aisle 7!

The grocery store clerk ran frantically to get the store manager who sat perched on a platform overseeing the customers as they checked out and exited the store with their full red shopping carts.

“Joe!” the clerk yelled. “There’s been an accident on aisle 7, you better come quickly, it looks bad.”

The two men ran toward aisle 7. When they turned the corner into the aisle a man sitting on the floor against the canned tomatoes looked up at them. He had several bleeding lacerations and possibly a broken arm. The man behind him, to his right, also sitting, had a couple of bruises but nothing serious.

“He was tailgating me,” the bleeding man said.

“It wasn’t my fault, it was his fault,” the bruised man said pointing at a man who was standing by the pasta looking unconcerned. “He came down the aisle the wrong way. Look at the damn arrows,” he said to the standing man angrily.

The standing man, who wore a suit, stared at his phone without looking  up.

The bruised man continued, “He turned the corner without looking and ran head on into this idiot. I didn’t have time to react.”

“Because you were tailgating,” the bleeding man said. “Had you been six feet behind me when I had to stop for this moron going down the aisle the wrong way, you would not have hit me.”

“If that idiot had followed the arrows you wouldn’t have stopped so abruptly. Why isn’t he talking? And why isn’t he wearing mask?”

A small crowd had gathered, a paramedic worked on the bleeding man, a policeman spoke confidentially to the store manager and the standing man, maskless and untroubled, looked at his phone.

“How did he even get in here without a mask?” the bruised man said. “That’s probably what caused the whole thing. He should have been wearing a mask.”

“You were tailgating. You were way less than six feet behind me.”

“Look,” the bruised man said, “I followed the arrows. There’s nothing on them that said I had to be six feet behind you.”

“Let’s calm down, everyone,” the policeman instructed. “I’ll be getting statements from all of you.”

The store manager looked at the standing man and asked, “Can you shed any light on this?”

“Sorry,” he said calmly, “You’ll have to talk to my attorney.”
