The tyranny we have witnessed in Canada in recent weeks should shock and dismay people all over the world. In an advanced Western democracy, the peaceful movement of patriotic truckers, workers, and families protesting for their most basic rights and liberties has been violently put down.
Their assets and life savings have been frozen. They have been slandered as Nazis, racists, and terrorists. These are the names they have been called. They’ve been arrested and charged with phony crimes. They’ve been falsely accused of loyalty to foreign powers. I watched them. I saw those Maple Leafs all over the flags and the love for their country. Plenty of Americans were there too, and they love our country.1

This morning I started thinking about the Canadian Trucker convoy because its two organizers, Tamara Lich and Chris Barber are getting sentenced today in Ottawa. According to Trish Wood “The crown is looking for 8 years custodial and to seize and dismantle Big Red – Chris’s truck that became a symbol of hope.”2
I followed the convoy closely and it’s hard to believe those days occurred in January and February of 2022. As an American I felt such pride that our Canadian brothers, regular people, were standing up to the insanity of those days. Did they burn buildings? Did they destroy businesses? No, they peacefully protested despite the propaganda about them.
Then when the police, many of them that looked like they had been shipped in from other countries, started the tensions and attacking and provoking these brave people, I became quite depressed. What was happening to our world?
But those truckers inspired the world and I remember more trucker protests: some in Europe, in Australia and here in the U.S.
So I will be very interested to see what happens today in Ottawa. I fear it won’t go well.

I’m at the courthouse in Ottawa. Tamara Lich and Chris Barber are about to be sentenced for their roles in the 2022 trucker convoy.
Legal precedent says that a first offence for politically-motivated mischief, where there was no violence involved, results in ZERO jail time. I’ve sat through several of the recent sentencing hearings for various truckers across Canada, and I’ve heard all of the precedents — typically Greenpeace protesters blocking a bridge or a logging road, or an anti-oil protester blocking a pipeline.
Time after time, judges give people a warning and let them go. (And remember: Tamara has already spent 49 days in jail awaiting trial.)
Incredibly, Doug Ford’s prosecutors are demanding SEVEN YEARS in prison for Tamara, and EIGHT YEARS for Chris.
There is no legal precedent for that. It’s a disgrace — frankly, it’s surprising to me that any lawyer would actually seek such an astoundingly unconstitutional sentence. But that’s what’s happening today.3

BREAKING: Justice Heather Perkins-McVey sentences trucker organizer Chris Barber. 18 months conditional sentence, concurrent 3 month sentence for counselling disobedience of a court order. To be served in the community. Keep the peace, etc.
Barber must remain on his own property during the first 12 months except for employment or travelling to and from any legal, medical or dental appointments, or religious services. Once a week for up to five hours to go shopping for necessities of life. Or by written permission of his “supervisor”. For the remaining period of time, he has a curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.4

Tamara Lich, one of the key organizers behind the Freedom Convoy protest, has been sentenced to 18 months house arrest, minus time served, for her role in the 2022 anti-mandate protest. Justice Heather Perkins-McKey delivered the ruling on Tuesday, rejecting calls from the Crown for a stiffer, seven-year sentence.
Rebel News publisher Ezra Levant was in the courtroom as the sentence was doled out and had further details.
The first 12 months of the sentence requires Lich to be under house arrest, barring trips to and from court or for medical emergencies or appointments, religious service and five hours a week for shopping.
Lich can also attend her upcoming grandchild’s birth.
The remaining 3.5 months, the Freedom Convoy organizer will be forced to live under a curfew between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., except for medical emergencies.
She was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service.5
