When Something Changes in The Matrix

Four, white, liberal, middle-aged women sat comfortably around a table in an upscale, crowded coffee shop. Their outer winter clothing was piled on a fifth chair while they sipped a latte, mocha, cortado and an americano in heavy, white, porcelain mugs. Each of them had ordered a muffin: blueberry, chocolate chip, banana nut and cranberry.

“Something’s wrong with Trump,” the first woman said.

The others nodded in agreement.

“Doesn’t he know the havoc this is causing?” the first woman continued.

“He must,” a second woman said. “It’s not rational what he’s doing!” she said a little louder. Then even louder she said, “He’s putting all of us at risk!”

The third woman, usually the quietest of the foursome, said, “Can’t he see? It’s common sense for God’s sake! How can people be so incredibly dense?!”

The four women quieted for a moment sipping their drinks in unison, as if they’d been directed to do so. After setting their mugs down they picked up their muffins, took a bite and put them back on their small white plates, grabbed green napkins from their laps, wiped their mouths, returned them to their laps, then took another sip of their beverages—all in unison, without any awareness of how strange this spectacle looked to the older couple sitting at the table next to them.

“He’s almost 80,” the fourth woman said. “There should be a law against old geezers in the White House.”

The women chuckled, but the first woman cackled so loud some other patrons glanced her way. The she spoke, “Why is he putting illegals above his own citizens? We can’t keep letting them in! They should be deported! Close down the border! Trump pretends it’s all compassion for other, less fortunate human beings. Explain that to Laken Riley! I heard he’s thinking of amnesty for all of them!”

“I’m tired of being a second class citizen in my own country,” the fourth woman said.

“Well,” the third woman said, slightly exasperated. “We’re not going to get anything accomplished sitting in here.”

The women rose from their seats, prepared themselves for the cold and before exiting picked up the protest signs they had stacked at the doorway. The four signs read:

Deport all Illegals! Trump is a Traitor!
Stop Mass Migration! Impeach Trump!
Remember Laken Riley!
Let ICE Do Its Job!

They walked out into the bitter cold, into a throng of like-minded women marching down main street, resolved to win this battle—even if it killed them.

Two woke women. Deport the illegals. Karen, that's what Trump wants. Oh....stop the deportations. That's better. Let's go get a Latte.
